Soda Stream Review and Giveaway

Hello All,

Stephy from Stephs Cheers and Jeers here, I am going to be doing some guest posting here on the blog, so I decided why not start off my first post with a Sodastream review and giveaway! I mean who doesn’t want to be able to make soda on home out of tap water?

When this box came, I ripped it open like a kid on Christmas! I was sent the Sodastream Source starter kit which included the Sodastream Source system, one CO2 cartridge, a 1 L BPA free carbonating bottle  and a sampler of flavors. For those who dont know much about SodaStream, they are a company who sell a wide variety of home soda makers designed to save money by making soda from tap water! I mean how cool is that?

The first thing I noticed when taking the SodaStream out of the box was that it doesn’t plug into anything, maybe I never fully understood how the Sodastream works but this was a little bit of a shock to me, we lose power here a lot where I live so I was pretty excited to see that it doesn’t plug into the wall or have to charge, it is fully operational using just the CO2.

The CO2 is fully hide by a panel in the back of the machine, its an easy pull off cover and the CO2 slides in the bottom of the machine and then you screw it in, its fits snugly so you don’t have to worry about the CO2 moving around, I even brought this machine on a trip with my hubby and I and the CO2 did not move around or have to be tightened. One CO2 canisters lasts up to 60L of soda and is returnable at most stores for a discount on a new one!

The front of the machine is very clean looking and the controls are very easy to use, you fill the carbonation bottle with water(I have found extremely cold works the best) to the fill line, and then you simply attach the bottle to the easy attach locking system and then you simply hold down on the top front portion of the machine and it carbonates the water inside the bottle. There are three carbonation levels and they are indicated by droplets that light up. The system specs are

  • Height: 16-1/2″
  • Width: 9-1/2″
  • Depth: 4-3/4″

After you remove the bottle from the locking system (you do this by pulling up on the top and then pulling down on the bottom), be sure to slowly add your flavor of choice, not doing so will cause it to overflow. The system does make a high pitched noise when you are in the middle of carbonation but apparently this is normal for Soda Stream systems, it did however scare my cat and the first I did it, we didn’t see her for a few hours!  But in the end the system has already saved us money, we were spending upwards of $40 every two weeks on soda. Some of the flavors don’t taste exactly like the name brands but I feel they taste even better. Its easy to use and even portable(at least in my opinion, some might find the size a little non portable), I love the fact that it operates on the CO2 only which means I can make soda without power! The flavors are affordable and tasty!
