The Very Hungry Caterpillar Giveaway

The Very Hungry CaterpillarThe Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is a classic children’s book. I actually just checked this one out for my 4 year old and he enjoyed it. Books like that never get old. It just so happens this book is this years Jumpstart Read for the Record book.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is really a great cause in my opinion. All it takes is one book, one story, 5 minutes of your time to get a child interested in reading. What better of a book to do that with than The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record will kick off on October 8th, 2009, on NBC’s TODAY show in Rockefeller Center with Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, and others.

To Participate

Be counted. Pledge to read today at readfortherecord.org. You’ll find everything you need to have your participation counted on October 8th.

Buy your book. Visit a Wal-Mart near you to buy this year’s limited edition campaign book. You can also buy it online at readfortherecord.org; proceeds from book sales benefit Jumpstart.

Sponsor a book. Most of the preschool children Jumpstart works with don’t have books at home, let alone the classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Help “jumpstart” a child’s library – visit readfortherecord.org to donate a book today.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Giveaway

Chelsea is the winner!

For spreading the word we have been able to get two copies of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. One to giveaway to you, and one to donate to my son’s Pre-K classroom.

His school isn’t located in the best neighborhood. However his teacher couldn’t be better, and his classmates all are pretty good kids. His teacher started a classroom library where kids could take home books from the class. The problem with that was there wasn’t many books. I personally donated about 20, and I am happy to be able to give them a brand new book, thanks to ReadfortheRecord.org.

Even if you don’t have children you can enter this to support the awesome program and spread the word. Consider giving it to family or maybe a local preschool that could use a great book like this for many years to come.

To Enter:

Mandatory: Simply share any childhood memory you have of reading classic books like this, or even The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Or just comment about which is your favorite and why.

To get a bonus entry please pledge to read this book. It’s a simple online form you fill out stating how many kids you are reading to, every kid counts!

For an additional entry subscribe to our newsletter. The newsletter goes out once a week (sometimes two if we are really busy!) and features different freebies, coupons, deals, online sites, and of course our contests.

To have your “bonus/additional” entries counted make sure to let me know in the comment section below along with your “mandatory” entry.

The winner will be chosen with random.org. The contest will run until Monday October 12th, 2009 at 11:59 PST.

The contest is valid for US residents.

my memory of reading this book as a kid was somehow being scared of each page that had the food the caterpillar was eating. we never owned this book but whenever i saw it at a friend’s house, i got scared. a few years later, i saw it at the library and it was explained to me and i turned out loving the book (odd, i know). i’d like to be able to share the joys of this book w/my children.
